CAHA's Commitment to Hockey is for Everyone: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

In 2019, CAHA (Carolina Amateur Hockey Association) adopted a Strategic Plan that is focused on meeting or exceeding national growth and retention rates across all ages and demographics. As part of its Strategic Plan, CAHA adopted four strategies. One of the four core strategies is to adopt the "Hockey is for Everyone" program being championed by the NHL.

The CAHA organization believes that the "Hockey is for Everyone" program aligns with the "Honor the Game" concept from the Positive Coaching Alliance which has grown to prominence in our sport over recent years. Honor the Game is rooted in respect for the game - respect for ROOTS - the Rules, Opponents, Officials, Teammates, Self. To embody the code of Honor the Game, we need to ensure that Hockey is for Everyone. This means equity and inclusion for all – Girl’s Hockey, Adult, Disabled, People of Color, Veterans, and more. Our current hockey population is underrepresented by people in these categories, and to grow our game we need to increase the diversity of players and families who participate in our sport.  This means equity, inclusion, and diversity are highly important to the growth of hockey in the Carolinas.

CAHA's Commitment to Hockey is for Everyone: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

CAHA is committed to fostering an inclusive environment where everyone involved respects the game, their teammates, their opponents, the officials, and themselves on and off the ice. CAHA celebrates every race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, ability, disability, and background. CAHA will stand up to intolerance and do the work necessary to make our sport and the world around us better for all.
